About the speaker
Francesco Lescai is an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics at the University of Pavia, where he leads the Laboratory of Computational Genomics. His career spans academia (UCL, Aarhus University), industry (QIAGEN Bioinformatics) and government (Head of Bioinformatics at the UK MHRA). His lab develops computational methods to understand how genomic variation shapes human traits and disease, with a particular focus on explainable AI as a tool for discovery, i.e. using deep learning not just to model genomic complexity, but to surface the biological mechanisms behind it. The lab is committed to open science, reproducible pipelines, and contributes to the nf-core community.
